The beginning of the path to fame
Imagine Dragons - a musical group that became a real discovery of the second decade of the XXI century, among the teams working in the genre of indie rock.
Imagine Dragons was formed by Daniel Reynolds - a talented vocalist who plays well on several musical instruments, and his friend-guitarist Wayne Sermon. This happened while they were in college. At first they were engaged in the fact that they played the compositions of their favorite teams, but after the end of the training their hobby turned into something more.
If we talk about official statistics, the year of birth of Imagine Dragons is called 2008. It was at this time that the musicians moved to Las Vegas and the first line-up was assembled.
Before moving to Las Vegas, the team, besides Reynolds and Sermon, included Andrew Tolman, as a drummer and his wife Brittany, as a keyboardist and backing vocalist. In Las Vegas they were joined by an equally talented bass player - Ben McKee. In this composition, the group gained first glory.
After joint rehearsals and songwriting, the musicians started working in the studio Battle Born Studios. Their first mini-album, under the same name (Imagine Dragons), was released on February 1, 2009. He immediately attracted the attention of listeners and critics.
The next disc, called Hell and Silence, was released on April 1, 2010 and finally convinced the listeners that a new star is lighting up on the rock sky. Qualitative sound, thoughtful arrangements and interesting words of songs sparked even greater interest in the work of the collective. Additional attention to the creativity of the musicians was ensured by the participation in the recording of the second album of the nominee of the Grammy Award Mark Nidham.
After that, Imagine Dragons received an offer to take part in the annual festival Bite of Las Vegas, as the most popular group of 2010. Soon the band already acted as the headliner of the Vegas Music Summit.
At the same time there are changes in the composition of the group. Andrew and Brittany Tolman decided to devote themselves to the family. Place for drums was taken by Dan Platzman, after which the composition of the group stabilized.
After the release of several successful mini-albums and spectacular concert performances (a journalist from Las Vegas CityLife, visiting one of them wrote that Imagine Dragons is a "band that needs to be listened to live"), the band signed a contract with Interscope Records, one of the leading American record labels. In collaboration with producer Alex Da Kid, the musicians record their first EP under the wing of the new studio - Continued Silence. Imagine Dragons did their utmost to write this album and, I must say, it came out really good.
But all this was just a preparation for real glory. World fame came to Imagine Dragons after the release of the first longplay, which was released on September 4, 2012. Night Visions album was not just successful - it went up to the second line on the Billboard 200. The song "It's Time" reached the 22nd line on the Billboard Hot 100 and rose to the 4th position on the Billboard Alternative and Billboard Rock. Later, the single with this song reached the platinum status.
The group is rapidly gaining popularity, and their compositions are used in soundtracks to world blockbusters. In the movie "Hunger Games: And the flame will flash," the Who We Are track sounds, and in the film "Transformers: The Age of Extermination", two of their songs - Battle Cry and the demo All for You - sound.
To the recording of the next album the band approached with even greater zeal. In addition to interesting and well-recorded material, musicians again began to use the long-tried technique of maintaining interest in the public - the release of singles. Six months before the release of the album, in September 2014, they released the single I Bet My Life. The song began to gain popularity and already in November a clip was shot on it, which was taken to the show by the majority of the leading music channels.
The second single, Gold, was no less popular and warmed up the interest of listeners to the future album, which was released on February 17, 2015. The album was named Smoke + Mirrors and in its support the world tour was held - Smoke and Mirrors World Tour.
The tour of the group was also held in Russia. January 24, 2016 Imagine Dragons gave a concert in Moscow on the stage of the Olympic Stadium, and on January 26 played in the Ice Palace of St. Petersburg. It should be noted that it was not so easy to buy tickets for these performances.
The most interesting moments from this tour were included in the documentary Smoke + Mirrors Live. After installation and processing it was released in the rental and is shown on March 2, 2016 in many cinemas in the world.
The third studio album - and again the success
Throughout the year, among the fans of Imagine Dragons, there were rumors about the beginning of recording by the group of the third studio album, but only in November 2016 the musicians confirmed them. The single "Levitate" dispelled any fears of listeners on this score.
Nowadays you can often hear that modern rock bands can release one, at most two, good albums and after that cease to create anything interesting. I'm glad that Imagine Dragons is not among them.
May 8, 2017 the team said that the album is almost ready and will soon be on sale. As before, the audience was presented with several songs from the upcoming album in the form of singles. Such hits as Believer, Thunder and Whatever It Takes were released one by one with a period of 1-2 months and made it clear to listeners that the new album is the best that Imagine Dragons created.
The album - Evolve (on the cover photo of the disc you can see the non-standard spelling - ƎVOLVE) came out on June 23, 2017 and did not become a disappointment for the band's dedicated listeners. Since February 2017 Believer has been on all radio stations. A clip was shot on the song, in which Dolph Lundgren himself took part. The video was released on March 7, 2017 and was broadcast by all the famous music channels. Also, specifically for the film Clint Eastwood - "Train to Paris", was created an instrumental version of the composition.
All this led to the fact that on August 14, 2017 Believer became the winner at the Teen Choice Awards in the nomination "Best Rock / Alternative Song". She did not stay unnoticed in Russia. It is enough to look into the list of requests for a search for its translation into Russian. It is to be hoped that Imagine Dragons has not visited our country for the last time and that other cities will appear in the poster of their speeches, where the connoisseurs of their music are no less than in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
